Community Fibre not working? Try this

Community Fibre provides fibre internet. Community Fibre runs its own full-fibre network in London, separate from Openreach and Virgin Media.

Find out whether Community Fibre knows about an outage at your address

  1. Sign in to the Community Fibre app on mobile data. Known outages for your address are shown on the first screen.
  2. Look at the report chart on this page. A sudden jump in the last hour means other Community Fibre customers are affected too.
  3. Ask a neighbour on Community Fibre, or check a second device, to see whether the problem is only yours.

Restart your Community Fibre router the right way

  1. Unplug the power from your Community Fibre router. Leave the fibre box on the wall (ONT) plugged in unless its lights are off or red.
  2. Wait a full 60 seconds so the equipment drops its old connection.
  3. Plug it back in and give it up to 10 minutes. The internet light should turn solid white, green or blue depending on the model.
  4. Still nothing? A red or dark light on the fibre box means the line itself is down, and only the provider can fix that.
  5. Open the Community Fibre app and run its connection test. It can reset the line from the provider's side, which a power cycle cannot.

Work out whether it is the internet or just your Wi-Fi

  1. Connect a laptop to the router with a network cable. If the cable works and Wi-Fi does not, the provider is fine and the router or its position is the problem.
  2. Test more than one device. One failing device points to that device.
  3. Turn off any VPN and try again.

Community Fibre outage questions

Is Community Fibre down right now?

The status at the top of this page is updated every few minutes from automated checks of Community Fibre's systems and from visitor reports. Our checks reach Community Fibre's website and sign-in servers, so a local line or mast fault in one neighbourhood shows up first in the report chart rather than in the checks.

How do I check for a Community Fibre outage in my area?

Use the Community Fibre app, which shows faults for your own address or postcode. Then compare with the reports on this page to see whether other customers are affected.

Why is my Community Fibre internet slow but not down?

Slow speeds with a working connection usually come from Wi-Fi, not the line. Test with a cable first. If the wired speed is also far below your plan, there may be a fault on the line that has not become a full outage yet, so report it.

Does Community Fibre pay compensation for outages?

Ofcom runs an automatic compensation scheme for broadband and landline. If your provider has signed up and a fault is not fixed two full working days after you report it, you are paid a set daily amount without having to claim. Report the fault to Community Fibre as early as you can, because the clock starts from your report.

How long do Community Fibre outages usually last?

Most faults are cleared within a few hours. Damage to cables from storms or construction can take a day or more, because a crew has to repair the line by hand.
