Virgin Media not working? Try this
Virgin Media provides cable internet and fibre internet.
Find out whether Virgin Media knows about an outage at your address
- Open Virgin Media's official outage page (linked below) and enter your address or sign in.
- Look at the report chart on this page. A sudden jump in the last hour means other Virgin Media customers are affected too.
- Ask a neighbour on Virgin Media, or check a second device, to see whether the problem is only yours.
Restart your Virgin Media Hub the right way
- Unplug the power from your Virgin Media Hub. Leave the fibre box on the wall (ONT) plugged in unless its lights are off or red.
- Wait a full 60 seconds so the equipment drops its old connection.
- Plug it back in and give it up to 10 minutes. On cable, the "online" light should stop blinking and stay solid.
- Still blinking? Check that the coax cable is finger-tight at the wall and at the modem. A loose coax connector is the most common cause of a single-home cable fault.
- Open the My Virgin Media app and run its connection test. It can reset the line from the provider's side, which a power cycle cannot.
Work out whether it is the internet or just your Wi-Fi
- Connect a laptop to the router with a network cable. If the cable works and Wi-Fi does not, the provider is fine and the router or its position is the problem.
- Test more than one device. One failing device points to that device.
- Turn off any VPN and try again.

Virgin Media outage questions
Is Virgin Media down right now?
The status at the top of this page is updated every few minutes from automated checks of Virgin Media's systems and from visitor reports. Our checks reach Virgin Media's website and sign-in servers, so a local line or mast fault in one neighbourhood shows up first in the report chart rather than in the checks.
How do I check for a Virgin Media outage in my area?
Use Virgin Media's official outage page, which shows faults for your own address or postcode. Then compare with the reports on this page to see whether other customers are affected.
Why is my Virgin Media internet slow but not down?
Slow speeds with a working connection usually come from Wi-Fi, not the line. Test with a cable first. If the wired speed is also far below your plan, there may be a fault on the line that has not become a full outage yet, so report it.
Does Virgin Media pay compensation for outages?
Ofcom runs an automatic compensation scheme for broadband and landline. If your provider has signed up and a fault is not fixed two full working days after you report it, you are paid a set daily amount without having to claim. Report the fault to Virgin Media as early as you can, because the clock starts from your report.
How long do Virgin Media outages usually last?
Most faults are cleared within a few hours. Damage to cables from storms or construction can take a day or more, because a crew has to repair the line by hand.
