Starlink not working? Try this

Starlink provides satellite internet. Starlink outages are usually worldwide or tied to weather and obstructions at your dish. The Starlink app's outage log shows which one you have.

Find out whether Starlink knows about an outage at your address

  1. Sign in to the Starlink app on mobile data. Known outages for your address are shown on the first screen.
  2. Look at the report chart on this page. A sudden jump in the last hour means other Starlink customers are affected too.
  3. Ask a neighbour on Starlink, or check a second device, to see whether the problem is only yours.

Check your Starlink dish and router

  1. Open the Starlink app and look at the outage or obstruction screen. It tells you whether drops come from the network or from something blocking the dish.
  2. Heavy rain, wet snow or ice on the dish weakens the signal. Service usually returns when the weather passes.
  3. Unplug the dish and router from power for 60 seconds, plug them back in and allow up to 15 minutes to reconnect to the satellites.
  4. Make sure nothing new is in the way, such as tree growth or a moved dish.

Work out whether it is the internet or just your Wi-Fi

  1. Connect a laptop to the router with a network cable. If the cable works and Wi-Fi does not, the provider is fine and the router or its position is the problem.
  2. Test more than one device. One failing device points to that device.
  3. Turn off any VPN and try again.

Starlink outage questions

Is Starlink down right now?

The status at the top of this page is updated every few minutes from automated checks of Starlink's systems and from visitor reports. Our checks reach Starlink's website and sign-in servers, so a local line or mast fault in one neighbourhood shows up first in the report chart rather than in the checks.

How do I check for a Starlink outage in my area?

Use the Starlink app, which shows faults for your own address or postcode. Then compare with the reports on this page to see whether other customers are affected.

Why is my Starlink internet slow but not down?

Slow speeds with a working connection usually come from Wi-Fi, not the line. Test with a cable first. If the wired speed is also far below your plan, there may be a fault on the line that has not become a full outage yet, so report it.

Can I get a refund for a Starlink outage?

There is no federal rule that forces US providers to credit outages, but most will if you ask. Contact Starlink after service returns, give the start and end time, and ask for a prorated credit for the days you were without service.

How long do Starlink outages usually last?

Weather drops last minutes. Network-wide faults are usually cleared within a few hours.
