AT&T not working? Try this
AT&T provides fibre internet, DSL, wireless home internet and mobile service. AT&T runs separate networks for wireless and for fiber/DSL home internet. Check which one is affected before you start troubleshooting.
Find out whether AT&T knows about an outage at your address
- Open AT&T's official outage page (linked below) and enter your address or sign in.
- Look at the report chart on this page. A sudden jump in the last hour means other AT&T customers are affected too.
- Ask a neighbour on AT&T, or check a second device, to see whether the problem is only yours.
Restart your AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway the right way
- Unplug the power from your AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway. Leave the fibre box on the wall (ONT) plugged in unless its lights are off or red.
- Wait a full 60 seconds so the equipment drops its old connection.
- Plug it back in and give it up to 10 minutes. On DSL, wait for the "DSL" or "broadband" light to stay solid.
- Still no sync? Plug the modem straight into the main phone socket without extension leads or splitters.
- Open the myAT&T app and run its connection test. It can reset the line from the provider's side, which a power cycle cannot.
Fix AT&T wireless home internet
- Restart the AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway: unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Move the gateway near a window on the side of the house facing the nearest tower. One room over can double the signal.
- Speeds drop in the evening when the tower is busy. If it is slow only at peak time, that is congestion, not an outage.
No signal or no data on AT&T
- Switch airplane mode on for 10 seconds and off again. This forces the phone to register with the network from scratch.
- Restart the phone. If it shows "SOS" or "Emergency calls only", the SIM is not being accepted by the network.
- Calls work but data does not? Open Settings, turn mobile data off and on, and check the APN matches the one in AT&T's help pages.
- Try Wi-Fi calling if you have home internet. It keeps calls and texts working during a mast fault.
- Take the SIM out, wipe it and reseat it, or toggle the eSIM off and on in Settings.
Work out whether it is the internet or just your Wi-Fi
- Connect a laptop to the router with a network cable. If the cable works and Wi-Fi does not, the provider is fine and the router or its position is the problem.
- Test more than one device. One failing device points to that device.
- Turn off any VPN and try again.

AT&T outage questions
Is AT&T down right now?
The status at the top of this page is updated every few minutes from automated checks of AT&T's systems and from visitor reports. Our checks reach AT&T's website and sign-in servers, so a local line or mast fault in one neighbourhood shows up first in the report chart rather than in the checks.
How do I check for a AT&T outage in my area?
Use AT&T's official outage page, which shows faults for your own address or postcode. Then compare with the reports on this page to see whether other customers are affected.
Why is my AT&T internet slow but not down?
Slow speeds with a working connection usually come from Wi-Fi, not the line. Test with a cable first. If the wired speed is also far below your plan, there may be a fault on the line that has not become a full outage yet, so report it.
Can I get a refund for a AT&T outage?
There is no federal rule that forces US providers to credit outages, but most will if you ask. Contact AT&T after service returns, give the start and end time, and ask for a prorated credit for the days you were without service.
How long do AT&T outages usually last?
Most faults are cleared within a few hours. Damage to cables from storms or construction can take a day or more, because a crew has to repair the line by hand.
