Google Fiber not working? Try this
Google Fiber provides fibre internet.
Find out whether Google Fiber knows about an outage at your address
- Sign in to the Google Fiber app on mobile data. Known outages for your address are shown on the first screen.
- Look at the report chart on this page. A sudden jump in the last hour means other Google Fiber customers are affected too.
- Ask a neighbour on Google Fiber, or check a second device, to see whether the problem is only yours.
Restart your Fiber Jack and router the right way
- Unplug the power from your Fiber Jack and router. Leave the fibre box on the wall (ONT) plugged in unless its lights are off or red.
- Wait a full 60 seconds so the equipment drops its old connection.
- Plug it back in and give it up to 10 minutes. The internet light should turn solid white, green or blue depending on the model.
- Still nothing? A red or dark light on the fibre box means the line itself is down, and only the provider can fix that.
- Open the Google Fiber app and run its connection test. It can reset the line from the provider's side, which a power cycle cannot.
Work out whether it is the internet or just your Wi-Fi
- Connect a laptop to the router with a network cable. If the cable works and Wi-Fi does not, the provider is fine and the router or its position is the problem.
- Test more than one device. One failing device points to that device.
- Turn off any VPN and try again.

Google Fiber outage questions
Is Google Fiber down right now?
The status at the top of this page is updated every few minutes from automated checks of Google Fiber's systems and from visitor reports. Our checks reach Google Fiber's website and sign-in servers, so a local line or mast fault in one neighbourhood shows up first in the report chart rather than in the checks.
How do I check for a Google Fiber outage in my area?
Use the Google Fiber app, which shows faults for your own address or postcode. Then compare with the reports on this page to see whether other customers are affected.
Why is my Google Fiber internet slow but not down?
Slow speeds with a working connection usually come from Wi-Fi, not the line. Test with a cable first. If the wired speed is also far below your plan, there may be a fault on the line that has not become a full outage yet, so report it.
Can I get a refund for a Google Fiber outage?
There is no federal rule that forces US providers to credit outages, but most will if you ask. Contact Google Fiber after service returns, give the start and end time, and ask for a prorated credit for the days you were without service.
How long do Google Fiber outages usually last?
Most faults are cleared within a few hours. Damage to cables from storms or construction can take a day or more, because a crew has to repair the line by hand.
